Return from Witch Mountain (1978)
More Tony & Tia
By Jeffrey M. Anderson This sequel to Escape to Witch Mountain (1975) is probably the closest Disney ever came to making a grindhouse film, starring Christopher Lee and Bette Davis as villains (Davis following up her string of horror films like What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? and Burnt Offerings). It's a sci-fi picture with aliens and visual effects, and we even get street gangs. So what if there's no gore or language or nudity? The telekinetic Tony (Ike Eisenmann) and Tia (Kim Richards) return to the city for an educational vacation. Within minutes, Tony is kidnapped and brainwashed into doing evil deeds for the bad guys. Tia teams up with a junior street gang to save him. It ends with a brother-sister showdown. Disney has re-released the DVDs for 2009 with good-looking, remastered versions of the films, plus pop-up facts, cartoons, and various featurettes and a commentary track with the director and the two stars (Eisenmann and Richards).
