Bussing a Move
By Jeffrey M. Anderson Who says movie reviewers can't have a good time? I love Speed.Always have. It's the only action movie I can think of that begins witha brilliantly simple idea -- a bus that will explode if it drops below50 mph. Keanu Reeves is perfect as the nearly robotic L.A. cop concernedwith doing his duty and nothing more. And Dennis Hopper deliciouslychomps on the scenery as the one-handed bad guy. But Sandra Bullocksteals the movie. You can actually see her working her charms on Keanuduring certain scenes; he cracks a smile from time to time. Most actionmovies don't age very well, but Speed still works, rooted in the feelof a typical L.A. workday underneath all the chaos. DVD Details: Fox has released this great double-DVD set ($26.98) with a beautiful new transfer and tons of extras.
