A Virgin Among the Living Dead (1973)
The Franco Files
By Jeffrey M. Anderson A trash classic by the very prolific Jesus "Jess" Franco. A young girl travels to visit her long-lost family in a remote mansion, but they're actually a bunch of zombies. That's all the plot there is, but Franco layers on the sex and gore every other scene. It's definitely not for every taste. This DVD (Image Entertainment, $24.99) restores the official 79-minute director's cut, which was mutilated over the years depending on what distributors wanted (more or less sex or gore).
In 2013, Kino Lorber released a Blu-ray edition, under their "Redemption" label, that includes both Franco's 79-minute cut, and the longer 90-minute cut with more zombies spliced in. Tim Lucas provides a commentary track, and we get various featurettes, extra footage, a photo gallery, and trailers.
