Star-Crossed
By Jeffrey M. Anderson Though the plot of this teen drama comes straight from a dozen after-school specials, thedirector John Stockwell and the two leads Kirsten Dunst and Jay Hernandez, deftly dodge most of the genre's usual cliches. Dunst plays the rich, spoileddaughter of a senator (Bruce Davison), while Hernandez busses two hours each wayevery day in order to attend a more prestigious school. Though the plotmechanisms restrict the overall film, the characters' talk and the emotions ringtrue.
