By Jeffrey M. Anderson Robert Redford stars in his usual quietheroic role as a liberal reform prison warden who first appears as aprisoner to get a lay of the land. He attempts to rid the prison of itsbarbaric tactics, and eventually tries to uncover an ancient murder rap,but the odds are against him. It's a heavy-handed message movie with anintolerable ending, but it contains many great performances, notablyfrom Morgan Freeman as a half-crazed solitary prisoner.
