The Simpsons: The Complete Twentieth Season (2008)
Not Having a Cow
By Jeffrey M. Anderson The ground-breaking twentieth season finds one of the greatest TV shows of all time in peak form. Each of these twenty-one episodes, which aired between 2008 and 2009, contains at least one good chuckle, and some of the satire is as pointed as ever. Lisa takes "happy pills" to drown out her negative view of the world, and the citizens of Springfield build a wall around the town to keep out immigrants. (Plus "Treehouse of Horror XIX" is here.) The show also expanded for widescreen, hi-def television this season, and even spruced up its famous opening credit sequence for the new format. Guest voices this season include Robert Forster, Denis Leary, Joe Montana, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Emily Blunt, Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova (from Once), Anne Hathaway and Jodie Foster. Unfortunately, this DVD box set is an uncharacteristically stripped-down affair, with virtually no extras. It includes what sounds like a 20th anniversary documentary directed by Morgan Spurlock (Super Size Me), but what we really get is just a 3-minute preview of said documentary. Will Fox release a more "deluxe" version down the line?
