MLB 25: Greatest Postseason Home Runs (2013)

3 Stars (out of 4)

Outta There!

By Jeffrey M. Anderson

This hour-long DVD highlights the 25 greatest postseason home runs in history, which averages out to a little less than 2-1/2 minutes per home run. This doesn't allow much time for the suspense or the general overall magic that baseball has to offer. And in this short-attention-span-theater, the production also adds a constant, frenetic narration and constant, thrumming musical score to try to artificially add the excitement back in. Nonetheless, there are some awfully cool moments here, including Babe Ruth in action, Carlton Fisk's legendary 1975 12th inning home run for Boston, and shortstop Ozzie Smith's unlikely 1985 home run for the Cardinals. Reggie Jackson is briefly interviewed for his record-tying three consecutive home runs in a single World Series game.

The second half gets better as the technology improves and the footage gets brighter and clearer, and more players are around to be interviewed. The majority of the DVD focuses on the past 20 or 25 years, with the Red Sox's 2004 victory a personal highlight. Bonus features on the disc include extra interviews.
