Hypno-Guys
By Jeffrey M. Anderson
Surely this must be one of Bela Lugosi's most wretched "B" movies, but it's so ridiculous that it makes me laugh, and Lugosi is always worth watching (not to mention John Carradine in a simpering lackey role). The plot is mind-bendingly dumb: Dr. Richard Marlowe (Lugosi) lures beautiful girls to his hideout using a fake detour sign and hypnotism. Then he tries to use their life essence to revive his dead wife. In an early "meta" touch, the hero is a Hollywood movie writer, whose character delivers the very funny last line. It's directed by the legendary William "One Shot" Beaudine, who could finish a "B" movie faster than anyone, quality be damned. Olive Films released Voodoo Man on Blu-ray!
