Sister Lover
By Jeffrey M. Anderson The Farrelly brothers, Bobby and Peter, are beginning to make the same mistake that the Zucker brothers (Jerry and David, along with Jim Abrahams) made, which was to split up and take increasingly less responsibility for their films. The Farrellys only produced Say It Isn't So, and though it does bear their "touch," it's only a pale imitation. Nice-guy Chris Klein falls in love with blonde Heather Graham only to find out that she's his sister. But wait! She's not really his sister after all, and now Klein must journey to the small town of Beaver to stop her from marrying an evil millionaire. Maybe if Say It Isn't So took the incest thing a little farther, we might have had something really racy. But writers Peter Gaulke and Gerry Swallow and director J.B. Rogers are content with their stupid romantic comedy plot with cruel Farrelly gross-out jokes shoehorned in. Some of these gags are worth a laugh, but the film as a whole makes you yearn for the vintage Farrelly productions. Sally Field, Richard Jenkins, and Orlando Jones also star.
